Colour Wheels

Lucy Colour Wheels

Zoe Colour Wheels

So today we launched our new website, which was very exciting, as it was a very long project, but more on that later. We also launched our lovely new little product range called "Colour Wheels". Named by our 8 year old, these little pops of colour are hand painted onto premium plywood. It's nice when a project involved the whole family. There are currently dozens of these little circles all over our place in various states of complete. These are a lovely way to add some colour to your wall or to an existing cluster of artworks. xx

New York ll with a peachy sky

This is the second limited edition print of New York by Printspace. A fine art print limited to 100 per the 2 sizes.

I have gone for softer colours in this piece and a new focus on the Empire State Building. Looking south down Manhattan Island towards Freedom Tower.

The sky is a peachy colour and I have the lights turned on, on top of the tower. The people toil away in their offices as the lights flicker on for the evening.

The city has a rich history of many styles and probably most famous for Art Deco - which is why the typography solution is in this same style. The typography matches the blocky style of artwork. The blocks of colour are being used like large paint strokes to build an impressionistic feel combined with a mid century modernist approach. There are also influences of cubism even though the artwork is still quite figurative.

Essentially, this piece is about the impressive scale of The Empire State Building and it's surrounds having more depth than the first new york print. While both prints (See Printspace™ website ) focus on buildings, this piece has more depth than the first. Nicholas wanted both pieces to be different to each other but still compliment. Hope you enjoy the colour interplay.

On a thick cotton rag paper. Unframed prints available in 2 sizes. 70 x 100 and 100 x 120cm.

Art Print Friday : Prost! Here's to a great weekend.

Every Friday we like to celebrate the week that was, the weekend to come and a favourite print.
This week we celebrate our boys receiving awards at their school assembly. They both got one - it was a complete coincidence, but extra brilliant as they both came home beaming with pride.

Our favourite print this week is PROST! With it's bold colours and pure happiness, this is a print bound to make you smile, and may even make you thirsty.

Enjoy your Friday night with a beer, something sparkling or maybe a hot chocolate!!  Either which way, enjoy your Friday and celebrate something - big or small! xx

NEW! The Owl and the Pussycat Art Print

'The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea, in a beautiful pea green boat. They took some honey and plenty of money wrapped up in a five pound note.' A lovely, and slightly kooky poem by Edward Lear, first published in 1871.

When we released our first edition of this print back in 2008, it was a big hit. Not just with new parents, but also with newly weds. We found out that this poem is a very popular reading at weddings. And why not, there's nothing more romantic than being serenaded.

So now, after the first edition sold out about a year ago, we decided it was time to bring this little favourite back again. It has been given a new look, but the sentiment is still the same.

It's available in 3 sizes to suit a wall, big or small. The 8x10" and 12x16" is printed on a lovely textured art paper, and the 50x70cm is printed on beautiful 300gsm cotton rag acid free art paper, using quality archival inks.

We hope you love this new print as much as we loved creating it. xx

Happy Mother's Day

http://www.printspace.com.au/index.php/default/mothers-day-special-edition-art-print.html

http://www.printspace.com.au/index.php/default/mothers-day-special-edition-art-print.html

It's almost Mother's Day......

Here's a little print to celebrate being a Mum. I think this message is something the Mum's with grown up kids have lived through, and Mum's like me with little ones think they will hold their kids hands forever..... Time flies kids..... we all know it. Every Mother's day I look at my boys and think, wow, how big you are, where have these last 8 years gone??

I love holding my little boys hands. The littlest one will let me hold his hand for quite a while, especially as we walk along. The older one is a bit more selective, but I sneak them when he's not paying attention.

The art print is in the shop now, and we are giving every customer who purchases one a free sheet of 'Textures' wrapping paper and a 'Wishes' gift tag.

Have a beautiful Mother's Day everyone xxx

Why you can and should have Sorbet every day

There are some great textures and shots of reds in this wall art. I like how the yellow changes from a crisp and sharp colour into a more mustard colour at the bottom of the painting. This print is quite calming and easy to look at. It is not overly precious and has a rawness about it which is timeless. Each of the three Sorbet art prints are limited to 100 units and are signed and numbered by the artist.  We hope you like Sorbet #3. Available now as unframed from Printspace™ in 50cm x 50cm (IKEA frame suggested) online shop. Order this wall art print. Art by Mara Girling.

How do you get a softer texture sorbet

Adding alcohol apparently lowers the freezing temperature of Sorbet (the frozen kind that you eat) providing a nice smooth texture. Don't ask how much alcohol. We always recommend responsible drinking when consuming desserts. I always have to look up dessert to make sure I'm not advising adding alcohol to the Australian outback. It's been done before. But I digress.

Sorbet #2 is part of a series of three fine art prints. The original paintings were created with acrylic onto canvas. These prints are vibrant, textured and highly detailed. The paper is a thick cotton-rag stock.
No alcohol was consumed during the creation of this piece. This Sorbet 2 [wall art] was created for the Printspace™ range by Mara Girling at 50cm x 50cm and is available now via the online shop - signed and numbered.

Coral Sea Art Print

'Coral Sea' limited edition art print is a cheery print. The sun shines through the water. While the shapes are juxtaposed, the colours are very balanced. The hot pink colour on the bottom right together with the organic shape above it are an equal match to the weight of the sun shape on the left. While the aim here is to obtain a balance in colour and form, the goal is to show complexity and overlapping forms but also a calmness through colour and flowing lines. Our 8 year old says, 'it's cool'. He sees a King, stars and a face. He likes it. This fine art print like all of our prints is sold as unframed. This comes in 2 large sizes to brighten up any living environment or to compliment any space for home or office. Both 70cm x 70cm and 120cm x 120cm. 'Coral Sea' can be purchased from our Printspace™ web shop.

Sculpture Park

This piece by Mara Girling is called 'Sculpture Park' While it is an abstract art print, the name provides the context. Our youngest son says "It looks like a big jumble of shapes. It is very, very colourful". And you know what  - that's accurate enough. This big jumble does suggest a scale. To some, that scale might be big and to others small or even microscopic. While we are always inspired by Mid 20th Century art and design for it's modern influences, the primary inspiration was simple organic sculptures. We hope you like it. I think the natural progression from this print is a piece which will have a sense of imbalance - a dynamic looking piece to compliment this art. But as a stand-alone piece, this will work well in a modern space or a space you want to look contemporary. Bigger is better when it comes to simple shapes and textures. This is why this is offered in 2 sizes.
Available in our Printspace™web shop 'Sculpture Park'. 70 x 70cm and 120cm x 120cm.

Swept Away art print by Mara Girling

We battled over this art print - I'm glad we did. Nick thought that it really stood out amongst the recent paintings and ideas. Initially, the arc shapes in the foreground were differently presented and the colours were less balanced than they are now. I like that we get passionate about the art to keep in the range.  After some discussion and adjustments, 'Swept Away' by Mara Girling was the result. The elements which make it work are the combination of the pinks and the watermelon red. It's a challenging colour to mix and it's hue has to be just right to get the balance right for the artwork. Too much pink and you have essentially a pink painting. But that's not the goal here. (continued below..)

We were originally a little unsure if the solid shapes would work with the painterly background but with this experimentation I was pleasantly surprised. If you are looking for a piece of art to always grow on you, this is it. The result is great. This is our goal for a piece of art to in some way challenge us in terms of colour, shape, texture, pattern, form or context. or in any particular order. Available in 70x70cm or 120 x 120cm, This fine art print onto thick white cotton rag paper is available in our Printspace™ online shop. If you would like this art print, please order online and then we can suggest a framer to you as an option.

Mountains Limited Edition Art Prints

Our art this year has seen both Nick and I look at travel and interesting places as a source of inspiration. Both near to home or on the other side of the world.
Here you will see my first new limited edition Art Prints for the 2014. My look at travel is a little more abstract, and looking at the greater world, not in detail, but in a feeling or mood it may create. A little bit dreamy.

They are available in super large sizes of 70x70cm and 120x120cm. Sit one over a sideboard, in your living space or bedroom. Happy dreaming for far away places you could go. xx

Melbourne - The limited edition art print

After the success of the sell-out New York print earlier this year, Printspace™ wanted to produce something that either challenged it or was better.

Creating a print worthy of our own home town ended up being a challenging task mainly because of the self imposed pressure to get it looking the way I wanted. Using the theme of buildings I looked at some iconic places in Melbourne - I wanted to present them in a way that really feels like Melbourne but without being overly sentimental or obvious. Using the dark blue as a backdrop meant that the design could feel like night time and also day time. I liked the idea of using the tram electrical wires as a way of dividing up the page because they are such a big part of the city. I wanted to look at the city as if I were seeing it for the first time. I saw a city with a contrast of classical architecture and modern building design. A city with colour and style. Perhaps i'm bias.
To me, the bridges over the Yarra River with their long round underpasses and arches. And the diagonals in architecture from Federation Square to the Arts Centre spire, and the tram wires slicing up the city made for a very graphic and colourful design. Blue seemed to be a fitting colour for Melbourne with a prism of other vibrant colours to show diversity and contrast. Anyone who lives in Melbourne would recognise the balloons as a common sight floating overhead.
This Melbourne Limited Edition Giclee art print is available only in 2 massive sizes and is available now form the Printspace™ online shop.

Barcelona Spain - patterns and colour

When you look down over the city of Barcelona, you see a pattern of square multi story appartments. It's like looking at fabric up close. But when you move in to the landscape and architecture by the 'Oh so famous one' that I wont even mention his name. You then see joyous colour and flowing organic shapes which puts a challenge to the thought that anyone actually needs a set-square at all. The pottery fractured and organised into the walls is such an iconic look that it inspires Nicholas from Printspace™ in this city poster of Barcelona.

"After studying the architecture, beautiful juxtaposed shapes and patterns within this vibrant city, I felt quite joyous and inspired. I wanted to show something that made me think of the repurposed fractured pottery, patterns and cathedral. The purpose was to create something iconic and fun to brighten up even the saddest of rooms. Simply to show the cathedral in a detailed illustration would do an injustice to the actual cathedral which needs to be seen to be believed. This is available in large and massive sizes."

These limited edition Giclee art prints are available in both Barcelona 70 x 100cm and Barcelona 100 x 120

Prague - perhaps the most picturesque place

According to the artist, Prague is one of the - if not the most beautiful city in the world.
Hardly anyone talks about it loudly, but those who have been there treasure it dearly and almost whisper that it is their favourite place in the universe. Like they are saving it up for something.

Prague and it's stunning city of red tiled roof-tops and spires, arches, lovers and towers. There is so much that this city gives in terms of creativity. It is tempting to put everything into one a piece of art - but that would not do either the art nor the city justice. This city requires certainly more than one poster from the artist. perhaps at least 2 or three to reveal Prague whilst snowing or Prague in Autumn. It could go on and on. While I was researching this city, I discovered Prague with snow. It looked like one of those snow domes. I think that they must have invented snow domes there because it looks so perfect.

Prague is also an art print by Nicholas Girling. This large artwork was completed March 2014. Printspace™ have just launched this Prague 70 x 100cm print and a larger Prague 100 x 120cm (as pictured) fine art print edition onto white 300gsm smooth cotton-rag paper. Each size is limited to 100 Giclee prints.

Why this size of 100 x 120cm?
This is a fairly unique size which would require custom framing. I wanted to make a perfect size portrait poster. I looked at our own walls at home and at the studio and got out the trusty old tape measure. I made a few mockup sizes out of cut paper and tacked them to the wall to get a feel for size and impact. I may have stared at the blank paper for a while. And this was the result for a portrait size. I imagine a piece like this going in an adjoining dining area connected to the kitchen. Something big and expressive.

Styling with : Sorbet Limited Edition Art Print

I had so much fun finding pieces to work in with our new Sorbet Limited Edition Art Print. (Available now from Printspace) It's great, as there are no limitations and you can choose anything at all.  I couldn't help myself, especially with the rug.... the colours are amazing.  The Light is a perfect shade of pale green/blue. Was I being greedy adding 2 pieces from Jardan? Nah, they are too lovely to ignore.

Created from an original painting, this print has all the brightness and detail that the painting does, and can be framed easily. Summer might have officially ended a few weeks ago now, and this print in gelati colours are a reminder of sunny days!

The print is a limited edition of 100, and is 50cm x 50cm (paper size, print is a bit smaller to allow for a white border for framing.) Yes, Ikea do a frame to fit this size. It is printed on beautiful cotton rag art paper, right here in Melbourne. xx

Where to buy these products:

Art: Printspace Sorbet Limited Edition Art Print
Lighting: Toldbod 120, Living Edge

Sofa: Wilfred, Jardan
Low Table: Iko, Jardan

New York, New York

Last year we launched a range of City Prints, with 3 Art Prints: New York, London and Paris.
It seems that people love travel..... who knew?? No, really, people LOVE to travel. And we also found out that people love New York. I mean LOVE. I know, that's no surprise, what's not to love? But what was so lovely was hearing all the beautiful stories of what New York meant to them. We heard about holidays, work, engagements, adventures, babies being born, romances, etc.

So now we have the last one of the 50 prints here for sale. Lucky last, on Ebay.
Here is the link to the Ebay listing. Happy Bidding.

New Year, New Prints

A new year brings new opportunity and a chance for new ideas.
We are hoping to spend a lot more time creating this year. A lot more time making art and prints.
I have missed it.  Last year was about textiles and stationery, two areas I love to work in, but with the expansion of those two ranges, the humble art print was put on hold a little.

So this year, its back to pencil, watercolour, ink and paint on paper and see what it will bring.

In the meantime, we have been working on a new series of mini prints. Little in size, but packed with colour! These little treasures will hopefully inspire your work space or home space.
This one will be in the shop Monday 27th January 2014 at 9pm EST.
www.printspace.com.au

Enjoy.
